Do not flush disposable wipes, diapers, or sanitary products down your toilet. These products do not dissolve and can clog the lines.
You can test your toilet to see if it leaks by putting a few drops of food coloring into the tank. Wait approximately 30 minutes to see if any of the coloring has leaked into the bowl. If so, then this is a sign that you have a leak.
Never use in-tank toilet bowl cleaners. These products can cause damage to the internal part of the tank and can reduce the life of the tank parts. Toilet bowl cleaners that hang in your bowl are a safer choice. Just don't flush them down the toilet!
Bottled drain cleaners are not recommended for use. These drain cleaners are very toxic and can eat away at your pipes and do damage to your plumbing. Also, these cleaners offer a quick fix for your problem, but they do not necessarily offer a long-term solution to what's causing the drain blockage.
Periodically do a check of your water heater for excessive corrosion on the pipes or for any water on the top or bottom of the heater. These are signs that the heater could be going bad. This is especially important if your heater is located in the attic, as a faulty water heater could cause significant damage to your home if not caught in time.
